Уголовный кодекс Канадысодержит несколько категорий уголовных преступлений от серьёзных уголовно-наказуемых преступлений до менее серьёзных правонарушений.
Менее серьёзные правонарушения предполагают более упрощённое судопроизводство и предусматривают максимальный размер штрафа до 5 000 долларов или до двух лет тюремного заключения. Преступления, попадающие в категорию упрощённого судопроизводства рассматриваются в Суде Онтарио без присяжных.
